Dogs on a Plane!

I’ve been smelling Chicken for three hours. It took me about an hour to realize it was Chicken. At first I thought I must have stepped in something but then I realized it was the dog. The dog was eating chicken. I’ve never thought about dogs on a plane before. Why would I?

So, the lady next me on the plane has her dog at her feet. I think its a Chiwawa but I can’t be sure. smelling chickenI’m traveling back from San Francisco to Baltimore, MD. We stopped in Pheonix for about an hour. It about a 7 hour flight including the stop. I’m really tired. I had to wake up at 2:30am so I could drive to San Francisco to catch the plane.

Back to the dog. She paid $89 to take her dog on the plane. He’s in a black bag with mesh on the side so he doesn’t feel……claustrophobic? She gave him half a tablet of a sedative drug to keep him quiet. I asked her if she had  given him a sedative. I was just checking because I wanted to be prepared mentally if the dog started howling. She also said she had the option of putting him in the cargo hold but that would have been more money. I guess he would have had to have had a whole tablet too!

Surprisingly, the dog didn’t not make any noise. I guess I wouldn’t have known it was there if it wasn’t for the chicken and the fuss she made over him. Her husband, who sat in the isle seat next to her seemed suitably embarrassed.

She told me she had just moved to Baltimore from California, that’s an interesting move!  My mind wondered as we were talking. What would happen if we ditched in the desert(we had flown over Nevada). I would have grabbed my laptop, she would have grabbed her dog I suppose.

On reflection, I wonder who is the odd one here.

  1. You write delightfully about the dog and the chicken!!

I just wonder if it’s safe to feed chicken to a dog — chicken has small bones in it and could puncture the dog’s throat. Oh dear. Maybe the pieces she fed him were boneless. Hope so.

Keep posting on this blog, Lazarus. You do have a gift with words.
